With the Cowboys set to face off against the Jags Sunday night in London, the only thing on Dallas’ mind should be winning, as they are coming off a two game losing streak, key injuries to Tony Romo and others. But this ‘gimmick’ game taking place across the Atlantic is proving to be more of a distraction than the Cowboys wished for.

The Dallas Cowboys finished last year’s campaign with a pedestrian 8-8 record. While many critics have blamed quarterback Tony Romo for the team’s shortcomings, the fact is that Romo is coming off a great season where he assisted in 31 touchdowns as compared to 10 interceptions. At 34, Romo’s game may see signs of decline this year especially that he had back surgery earlier this season.

The turning point.
Tough loss for the Dallas Cowboys last week. And it wasn’t one of those 24 hour losses either. It was one of those that you think about for the next few days, and depending on how things go as you get into the middle part of the schedule, one of those games you think about all year. A “What if?” game, if you will. I predicted that the Cowboys would beat the Broncos because I knew they could match up and I knew they could step their game up to stiff competition. Did I expect a 48-51 shootout? Hecks naw, but in hindsight it should have been obvious. I bet that the defense would step up rather than Tony Romo actually playing at a Peyton Manning-like level. Instead Tony Romo played perfect for exactly 58 minutes of the football game. Peyton Manning did the same, except his mistake came earlier in the game rather than in crunch time.

The Dallas Cowboys last played in the NFL playoffs three seasons ago. Last year, the team ended the regular season with a lackadaisical 8-8 record, marking the second straight season that they ended with a .500 winning percentage. Is the team bound to make a strong run to the playoffs, or will it continue to be stuck in mediocrity? Fans of the

First Down Friday
Evening football fans,
Week one of the NFL season is in the books and week two is on deck. We’ve already seen the Packers vindicate themselves on Thursday night football after their week one loss, but this definitely doesn’t look like the 15-1 team from 2011 or the Super Bowl team from 2010. Everyone had high expectations for the Bears after some offseason upgrades (Brandon Marshall & Michael Bush), and they seemed to justify those expectation with a week one drubbing of the Colts 41-21. But last night’s game seemed to foreshadow the unpredictability of the 2012 NFL season and it feels as though we may know less after week two than we did after week one (if that’s possible). Here are my thoughts about this upcoming weekend’s games: Scoring up? Big Whoop!

Does anybody remember when the Cowboys were labeled “Next Year’s Champions” in the ‘70s before they finally broke through and won a couple of Super Bowls? Yeah, me neither. I wasn’t born until 1986. But I watch quite a bit of NFL Network and I vaguely remember that being a thing. And all of us Cowboys fans love to live in the past and not in the present sorrow of one playoff victory in the last decade and a half. We like to think that history will repeat itself at some point in order to give us any semblance of hope for the upcoming season. So I shall indulge you once more with this idea of “Next Year’s Champs” but in a much more literal sense. While I am not predicting that the Cowboys will be Super Bowl Champions in 2013, I am tempering my expectations for 2012 and saving my hopes for a deep playoff run until 2013. Why, you ask? Because I’m tired of getting my feelings hurt, for one, but mainly because this team is in partial rebuilding mode and has chosen to rebuild one side of the ball at a time.

It's hard to believe that the NFL season is already coming to an end. It comes and goes so quickly that sometimes we forget to stop and smell the turf. This season has been another exciting one (despite the persistent failures of my Cowboys) where teams that didn't have high expectations made a playoff run (49ers, Broncos, Bengals) and teams that were expected to contend fell flat on their faces (Eagles, Jets, Colts). It was also a season in which a 27 year old passing record fell twice and a third QB threw for 5,000 yards for the first time in history.

Happy Victory Monday to everyone whom it applies:
It does apply to the Cowboys who handled the Bucs so well that they only needed 3 points in the second half to win by two touchdowns. But is that slow second half foreshadowing for things to come? I'll discuss later.

Going Forward
I think there is a general consensus in the football world that the Dallas Cowboys are in a heap of trouble. For two consecutive weeks the 'Boys have had an opportunity to distance themselves away from the NFC East pack after taking the division lead during a four game win streak. But for the last two weeks the Cowboys have gotten out coached and out hustled by the Arizona Cardinals, and then they let the New York Giants ring the door bell, break into their house, and steal their division. To make matters worse, of the Cowboys 6 losses they had ample opportunity to win every game except the "Imma piss on you like R. Kelly" Eagles game (I'll have to tell you about that one day). But as a famous former Cowboys coach once said, "You are who you are," and these are the Cowboys. They always have the talent compete and with Tony Romo at quarterback, but sometimes they find the most perplexing ways to lose games

This probably isn't news to anyone, but I truly do not appreciate the heinous rating that DeMarcus Ware received on the NFL Network's Top 100 players, nor do I appreciate the outright disrespect that Marshall Faulk showed on the Reaction Show afterwards.

With that said I must admit a dark secret to the blog world right here live on a Dallas Cowboys news posting site! I am not a Mavericks fan. In fact, I often root against the Mavericks, but I must admit that I have garnered a whole new respect for that basketball team. They have a ton of hungry veterans led by the best (offensive) player in basketball- Dirk. And you have to respect their explosiveness late in games. Those comebacks against OKC almost looked orchestrated they were so on point.

9. Dallas Cowboys- DE JJ Watt
This is a frustrating spot as a Cowboys fan, and I am really hoping they trade out of this position, and still get the same guy or maybe even Cameron Jordan or Muhammad Wilkerson. But with three defensive ends that are entering free agency, you know the ‘Boys aren’t bringing everybody back. Get a solid rotation player that will eventually be a starter and a productive player at the position. Many mocks have Tyron Smith, or Prince Amukamara going here, but I’m not sold on either of these guys. I watched Smith vs. my alma mater UVA and he go owned all game. Don’t believe me? See for yourself (hyperlink). And the one good season Amukamara had was when N’Damukong Suh was on his team. Without that luxury, the Fresh Prince of Nebraska (stupidest thing ever) had no interceptions and was absolutely embarrassed vs. Oklahoma State and a host of other teams. Does this (hyperlink) look like the solution to the Cowboys problems? Go safe here or trade down and get more value and more picks…

Shopping for free agents in the NFL is not much different from shopping for groceries at the grocery store. You must make your grocery list based on what you need, while keeping an eye out for great deals. You want to avoid overpaying for something that you either don’t need or won’t be satisfied with. You need to keep you eye out for dropping prices. It is also essential that you stay away from flawed products that have disappointed in the past. These are all keys to being a smart shopper in the NFL free agent market.

It has been a while and I don’t really have an excuse for not posting anything the last couple weeks. I guess since the Cowboys got trounced by the Minnesota Vikings I just haven’t had much inspiration. But I’ve come out of my temporary depression and have officially transitioned to the off-season. In between cartons of Ben & Jerry’s and episodes of Cash Cab I have thought long and hard about what the Cowboys need to do over the next 6-7 months in order to take the next step from playoff team to Super Bowl contender.

26 January 2010
Whenever I think back to this past Sunday’s game against the Vikings, everything just seems blurred. Although the final score read 34-3, I just can’t imagine how things got out of control so quickly. The Cowboys were moving the ball well and playing pretty well on defense initially. Then suddenly, they were getting stampeded. Not by Adrian Peterson. Not even by Chester Taylor. They weren’t even being mauled by Minnesota’s Pro Bowl laden offensive line. So what the hell happened?! Well in review, it was a lot of things but at the same time it was one thing: respect. The Cowboys underestimated and undervalued players on the Vikings and players on their own team. They underestimated the effect of a home field advantage in Minnesota. They also under estimated the amount of desperation that needs to be displayed in every playoff game. Somewhere between beating the Eagles twice and getting demolished by the Vikings, the Cowboys forgot that they were playing the one of the top 2 teams in the conference.

The Cowboys have a huge match-up this week against the #2 seed Minnesota Vikings. But, I don’t think that will keep any Cowboys fan from relishing in what has transpired over the last month. Over these last 4 weeks the Cowboys have exercised all of their “demons” and now simply have to go into the Metrodome and take on the 12-4 Minnesota Vikings led by Brett Favre to advance to the NFC championsip. Piece of cake, right? Well before we stuff ourselves, let’s digest the last month of the season and see what the Cowboys were able to stomach (pun intended).

The Dallas Cowboys have pulled off their first playoff win in years. Tony Romo is now 1-2 in the playoffs, and Wade Phillips finally has won one himself. Phillips and Romo had been known as "choke artists" in the past years, Romo fumbling a kicker hold against the Seattle Seahawks and throwing an interception late against the New York Giants.

With a shutout win against the lowly Washington Redskins the Dallas Cowboys split their December games (2-2). While it is not a complete turn around from their previous struggles, they showed some mettle down the stretch and have officially punched their ticket into the tournament. There are still many dominoes that need to fall into place to determine final playoff seeding, but at least the ‘Boys got a shot.

- In the ironic news of the day, the Dallas Cowboys signed kicker Shaun Suisham to replace the struggling Nick Folk. Although there is no evidence to support me, I predicted that this move would happen after the loss to the Chargers. First of all, I thought the Cowboys would cut him after that game. But somehow they found a way to blame the holder (I’m pretty sure that’s first). So they replaced Mat McBriar with Tony Romo and then what happens? He misses a game clenching field goal against the Saints from 23 yards out. The move for Suisham made sense in my head for so many reasons. Before he missed two crucial field goals against the Cowboys and the final straw against the Saints, Suisham was 100% from various ranges. So he seems to be the best kicker available and he played for the Cowboys a couple of years ago as well. That’s not the only familiarity point as the Cowboys will be playing at Fed Ex field this Sunday and Suisham will have a chance to redeem himself against the team that cut him. Hopefully Suisham still has some confidence and makes the move work for both parties. Sorry Nick, it was good while it lasted.

The Dallas Cowboys have entered their December swoon, and yet I'm not worried. The defense couldn't contain the pass. The offense couldn't punch it in from the one yard line. And off we go to New Orleans, a team that will pass all over you, that will stuff you at the line.

A game like Sunday begins to make you wonder, “Are the Cowboys truly incapable of finishing out a season?” Despite getting a career performance from their quarterback (41-55, 392 yards, 3 TDs, no picks), the Cowboys fell to a Giants team in turmoil. Eli Manning completed less than 50% of his passes and the Giants couldn’t find any consistent offense. So how in the world did the Cowboys lose this game?

4 December 2009
I recently read that the Cowboys were last in the league in terms of forcing turnovers. Despite playing solid defense(16.5 ppg), they have only forced 23 turnovers this season. I haven’t seen the defensive backs dropping a lot of passes, so that is not the answer. I also haven’t seen this team miss out on a lot of fumble recovery opportunities so that can’t be the cause either. There must be a reason why the Cowboys can’t seem to get the ball back from the other team. Although it is easy to say that they just haven’t been lucky or gotten the right bounces, there is a definitely a method to causing turnovers and it all starts up front. The Cowboys front seven needs to be coached up on the value of turnovers and wreaking havoc in the backfield. Although they do a good job of getting to the passer, they do not get their hands on enough passes and they have not mastered the art of the strip-sack. These will become necessary habits if the Cowboys wish to make any noise in the post-season.

1 December 2009
To this point of the season the Cowboys have taken care of business, for the most part. The Cowboys could very easily be 9-1 had they just maintained their composure against the likes of the New York Giants and Denver Broncos. But instead of dwelling on what could have been, the ‘Boys did a good job of moving on as they went on to win 6 of their next 7 games and claim 1st place in the NFC east. Unfortunately, none of that matters now. The Cowboys are 8-3 with the Philadelphia Eagles in a close trail at 7-4, and the Giants still kicking at 6-5. And being that the final five games of this season are in the dreaded month of December, the phrase “anything can happen” is an understatement.

Observations from Sunday:
- Jason Garrett tried to prove a point and the Cowboys almost lost the game because of it.
Garrett came under fire for only running the ball 11 times all of last week, so he decided to double that total in the first half on Sunday. That approach was somewhat understandable as the Cowboys got a pretty good push against a Haynesworth-less front four, but they should have mixed it up much more. The Cowboys play best when they are spreading the ball around to all of their playmakers. The wide-receivers didn’t even catch a ball until the 4th quarter, and Roy Williams didn’t register a single stat. Which brings me to my next point?

Any true Cowboys fan had to see this Sunday’s disappointing loss coming from a mile away. It was like double reverse psychology. Everyone starts talking about how the game is a trap game at the beginning of the week, yet most everyone picked the Cowboys to win. So naturally the Cowboys fell to the Packers and Tony Romo’s streak of November greatness came to a crashing halt.

This Sunday the Cowboys will return to Philadelphia in an attempt to try and avenge last season’s beating (hence the word crime) against the Philadelphia Eagles. There is a lot of hype leading up to this game and it is well deserved. The winner of this game will gain sole possession of the NFC East. Both teams are playing extremely well at this juncture of the season. And, via the embarrassing loss to Philly at the end of last year, the Eagles are currently the Cowboys biggest rival. In fact, since 2003 there is only one team in the NFC that has more wins than the Cowboys and it is most conveniently those hated Eagles.

For the past few years, anyone and everyone who I have discussed UVa football with has asked me how I felt about Al Groh. “Do you think he’s a better NFL or college coach?” “Is he too tough on his players?” “Is he tough enough on his players?” “Did he deserve that contract?” And the beat goes on and on. For the most part I have been a Groh defender. Even though he didn’t have the warmest personality, I respected and admired his knowledge of the game and I still do. However, after hearing of the embarrassing loss to William & Mary, watching the game against TCU live and in person, and then witnessing UVa’s collapse this past weekend against Southern Miss, I do believe there will be a change at the top of Cavaliers Football at the end of this season, if not before the end of the season.

A lot of thoughts went through my head as Lawrence Tynes lined up for the game-winning 37 yard field-goal last night. I though about how the Cowboys had turned the ball over four times to the Giants zero, yet they still led with 4 seconds on the clock. I thought about the sheer buffoonery, gluttony, and excess that is Cowboys Stadium. I thought about that 1.5 million pound screen being suspended over the football field and how it should be the scariest thing ever considering the tragedy that occurred earlier in the summer at a Cowboys facility. But none of these was the dominant thought in my mind as certain defeat loomed over America’s team. With 4 seconds left and the Giants on the verge of ruining the opening of the greatest venue in sports history I realized why I felt uneasy the entire game. I realized then, why I had a sneaky suspicion that fate was not on the Cowboys’ side. The ‘Boys were doomed from the coin toss. George W. Bush was given the esteemed honor of tossing the first coin in Cowboy’s Stadium regular season history. Jerry Jones let George W. Bush christen what was supposed to be one of the greatest triumphs in Dallas history. I’m not a superstitious man, but every thing George Bush touches turns into a grammatically incorrect mess. But it is neither analytical or politically correct (no pun intended) to blame George Bush for a Cowboys loss. That would be like blaming Bill Parcells North Korea’s development of nucular technology. So let’s break this thing down into a few key components.

The Cowboys are virtually the same team they were last year when everyone was putting them in the Super Bowl despite the fact that it was July. Of course they lost some veteran talent: T.O., Greg Ellis, Anthony Henry, Roy Williams, and Chris Canty. But they have reloaded and brought in viable replacements for all of those people. The only spot that you might question is wide-receiver but T.O. is definitely on his way down and Roy Williams will have equitable statistics if not better numbers than #81. The Cowboys’ main issue at this point is their schedule. They play in the NFC Beast and it’s always going to be tough to make it out of the division alive. But I love what Eagles’ President Joe Banner had to say in regards to the best division in football:

For most football fans, the battle between Orlando Scandrick and Mike Jenkins for the Dallas Cowboys’ starting right cornerback spot is quite insignificant. They are both second year players attempting to replace a second tier veteran in Anthony Henry. They are two of the fastest players on the team and they have shown flashes of their potential over the duration of last season, this off-season, training camp, and pre-season. To the casual fan, the only difference between Mike Jenkins and Orlando Scandrick is their draft position (Jenkins a 1st rounder, Scandrick a 5th Rounder) and their height. Actually Jenkins and Scandrick are about the same height but Jenkins has freakishly long arms so I give him the advantage by default…work with me people. But for me, Mike Jenkins’ comes up short (no pun intended) in this competition for a starting position on the most high profile team in the National Football League.

4th and Long edition
Michael Irving and Monday Night Football. Two statements that seem to go together. Just when Cowboy fans thought the best thing in the summer months were training camp and pre-season, here comes #88. The Playmaker's new show "4th and Long" brings the spirit of competition to six wide receivers and six defensive backs. I'll admit, I though this was going to be just as embarrassing as all those cocaine arrests that Mike had to endure late in his career. But with the help of Bill Bates and Joe Avezanno, Mike has turned this "Reality Show" into a true drive to the dream of becoming a Dallas Cowboy. Once more, he removes the stigma of "Reality Show" in the first episode, stating that this is a "Football Tryout Camp, don't give me that (expletive) about a reality show". Each week the competitors are graced with the presence of Cowboy greatness. Tony Dorsett, Roger Staubach and Daryl "The Moose" Johnston drop by with their own words of wisdom and specific drills. Not to mention the original #88, Drew Person, who shared a poignant story of not being drafted, and finding the fire to be the best. There is even an episode where Mike's "home" team heads up against Jerry Rice's team of rivals (rejects from the previous episodes).

We're back! The Nation has returned. All of those beatings in December have finally healed, or would have been totally forgotten if the NFL Network didn't replay the Philly game this past Sunday. But all that is in the past, just like TO, Pacman, Anthony Henry (the only good guy in the bunch), Roy (I used to be good, but can't cover for (insert expletive here)) Williams, and Greg ("It's Demarcus' fault") Ellis. Most Cowboy fans have probably heard that Greg Ellis will either be traded or released before the upcoming season. It what has been a turbulent past decade for the cowboys, Ellis provided solid performance at the DE and more recently at LB when the Boys shifted to the 3-4. He was never a perenial All-Pro and maybe not worth a 1st Round pick, but he was a good solid player and a starter on most teams. Minus his troubles converting to the 3-4 and contracts that go with it, it will feel strange not to see him in a Cowboys uniform.

It’s no secret that the NFL draft draws worldwide interest. In fact, next to the Super Bowl, it is the most watched football-related event of the year. Now, it’s true that some of this mass appeal can be attributed to scheduling: its late April arrival each year serves as an oasis of sorts to the average football fan in the barren emptiness that separates the end of the Super Bowl and the start of training camp. Plus, it is the one true event that merges the collegiate and professional levels–thus, unifying two enormous pools of fans. So, this is all to say that I fully understand the inherent appeal of the system. The yearly NFL Combine, however, I believe to be an entirely different animal.

It's all over.
Now is the time when we look through sick spring/summer months before another game. Sure, there will be the draft, very few, compelling stories to sift through. A Pacman story or two. But now is the hour of our discontent. Sunday will once again be an empty shell of a day. What will we do for the 12+ hours that used to be dedicated to watching football on the holiest of days. Fantasy points and trash talk. Loud cheers from a touchdown. Prayers before the snap for an interception, then bragging that your middle name is "Nostradamus" when it actually happens. Having to live through six months of the knowledge that an average football team took home the trophy this year. That's right, I said it. Average.

The crystal ball had a dreadful performance this past week, posting a woeful 1-3 record. This is playoff time, so that is totally unacceptable! The crystal ball started off 1-0, but then dropped its last three for the weekend! Anyway, that puts the crystal ball at 3-5 for the post-season, and 36-31-1 overall. That’s five games over .500 (.537 to be exact). Hopefully the crystal ball will perform better this coming week, as the pressure mounts in the Championship games! The crystal ball had a mediocre performance this past week, going a mere 2-2. This is playoff time, so that is unacceptable! The crystal ball took its lumps on the Colts game, but it’s okay with it since Norv’s our buddy! Anyway, that puts the crystal ball at 2-2 for the post-season, and 35-28-1 overall. That’s seven games over .500 (.555 to be exact). Hopefully the crystal ball will perform better this coming week, as the pressure mounts in post-season play! Let’s take a look back, and review what happened last week.

Wildcard weekend had an interesting lineup of games this year. All four road teams (wildcard teams) were favored to win over the home teams (division winners). That’s unusual, but this year it actually makes a lot of sense. Many of the wildcard teams had better records than the division winners. In the end, the underdogs won two of the four games (both 6th seeds defeated the 3rd seeded teams).

Each week, I will look into my (never wrong, just misinformed) crystal ball and give my predictions for that weekend’s games. I will prognosticate on all the playoff games each week. Keep in mind, that this is for entertainment purposes only, and that I do not endorse any sort of legal or illegal gambling. That being said…let’s see what’s in my crystal ball!

The crystal ball had a mediocre performance this past week, going a mere 2-2. We’re not sure what happened, but this is not acceptable. The crystal ball took its lumps on the Cowboys game, but it may have been predicting with its heart rather than its fortune-telling powers? Either way, that puts the crystal ball at 33-26-1 for the season. That’s seven games over .500 (.558 to be exact). Hopefully the crystal ball will perform better in the playoffs! Let’s take a look back, and review what happened last week.

This past Sunday, the Dallas Cowboys traveled to Lincoln Financial Field to play the Philadelphia Eagles in what was a win and you’re in the playoffs game. This game had a lot of build-up prior kick-off. The Eagles found out, about 15 minutes before the game started, that the stars had aligned for them; the Bears and Buccaneers had both lost. This game had everything football fans wanted. It was the ‘Boys against the Birds, with their playoff destinies on the line.

On Saturday night, the Cowboys had a golden opportunity to close out Texas Stadium in style. This was the final game to be played at the stadium. A Cowboys win would have been a fitting end to a stadium that has had many classic games. A win, and the Cowboys would have been one step further in their quest for a playoff berth, and a Super Bowl run.

Winners - Houston Texans
2) Baltimore Ravens @ Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys kept their playoff hopes alive as they took down the Giants in a physical drag-out type of game last week. For this one, Tony Romo is listed as having a 'back contusion', but is expected to start the game. Thats good news, but I wouldn't expect otherwise. This game is just as big as last Sunday night against the Giants. The Ravens also have a lot to play for as they try for an AFC wild card bid. If the Ravens defense has their way, they'll have Romo on his heels. But who do I think will win this game? Good question. I pick Dallas. They just have too much talent. Baltimore has a lot to play for, but Dallas is Dallas. I pick Dallas! I think Romo and co will find a way....any way to win against Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Joe Flacco and company on Saturday night in the last game played at Texas Stadium.

Last year, the Cowboys sent 13 players to Hawaii for the Pro Bowl. Granted, a few of those players made it by name alone, but for the most part they deserved it. When you go 13-3, as the Cowboys did last year, you tend to get a lot of coattail votes. This year the ‘Boys will be sending only 5 players.

The crystal ball, once again, had a stellar performance this past week, going undefeated at 4-0. Truly a tremendous achievement, as many of the games had playoff implications. That puts the crystal ball at 29-22-1 for the season. That’s seven games over .500 (.567 to be exact). Not many prognosticators gave the Cowboys much of a chance against the G-Men, but the crystal ball took a chance on them. The ‘Boys rewarded the crystal ball, and pulled off the upset. Let’s review and see what happened last week.

One Giant Win
The bickering Cowboys banded together as a unit on Sunday night to hand the New York Giants their second consecutive loss. This was one exciting win as Tashard Choice once again proved that he is for real. No Felix Jones? No problem as Choice delivered in the fourth, a quarter that is usually reserved for Marion Barber. Barber was not himself, he finished with 8 rushes for 2 yards. That's an average of 0.3 yards a carry. Choice on the other hand was 9 for 91 yards and a touch. His average carry was 10.1 yards. Big difference. It's safe to say that without Tashard Choice, the Cowboys falls back into the same type of game that they had against the Steelers, and blow another late lead. The truth is this team played together, all the worthy components charging as one unit. Romo battling through a back contusion, and coming back to score. As he did against the Browns in game one, remember the taped chin? Witten converting on that 3rd and 9 late in the game. This was the game winner, Choice adding to it on the next play just icing on the cake. The Defense was great.

The crystal ball was brought back down to Earth this past week by going 2-2. That puts the crystal ball at 25-22-1 for the season. That’s three games over .500 (.531 to be exact). The Cowboys and the Jets let the crystal ball down this past week. The crystal ball assures me it will rebound this coming weekend. Let’s review and see what happened last week.

Last week, I wrote that this game would tell us everything we need to know about the 2008 Dallas Cowboys… What They Are. The Cowboys have under-achieved this year, as they were the preseason favorites to win the Super Bowl. Now, they are battling just to make the playoffs. Maybe, everyone just overrated the Cowboys from the beginning? Maybe, they’re just not good enough? Maybe, they’re just…chokers?

Steelers 20 Cowboys 13
This had 'must win' all over it for the Dallas Cowboys. Did they deliver? Almost! The Cowboys took a 13-3 lead into the 4th and it looked like Dallas was going to take a hard fought game in the cold. Deshea Townsend had other ideas as he put the final stamp on the Steelers rally as he intercepted Tony Romo and ran it back for a pick six with 1:40 left in the game. A few things went wrong in the play that Townsend picked the ball off. Jason Witten ran the wrong route, but also Romo's throw wasn't terribly accurate. Romo put the blame on himself after the game. Looking ahead the Cowboys next (and last) 3 opponents for the regular season are: the Ravens, Giants, Eagles. It's going to be interesting to see how the pieces fall for 'America's Team'!

The crystal ball had a mediocre week, to say the least. The crystal ball went 2-2 for the week, and is now 19-20-1 for the season. That’s just slightly under .500 (.488 to be exact). We need to give it props for predicting the upset of the year (in my opinion). On the other hand, we must chastise it for the debacle in Denver. Let’s review what happened.

Based on the statistics sheet, this game should have been much closer than the actual final score indicated. The Jaguars got more first downs than the Vikings (17-15), more passing yards (286-104), and held about even in time-of-possession. However, the Vikes dominated the game in two key areas: turnovers recovered (five) and rushing yards (122-35).

Yesterday, the Cowboys defeated the San Francisco 49ers, at Texas Stadium, by a score of 35-22. Don’t let the score fool you, the ‘Boys were in cruise control mid-way through the 2nd quarter. The Cowboys defense started off a little shaky, but they were able to limit the 49ers to field goals. After the 1st quarter, the boys trailed 6-0, but that’s when it happened…the game changed in an instant!

No one is saying it. The networks and big newspapers love to ignore the WAC, Mountain West, and others as if they were a conservative Republican with no charisma. In my area, for example, the Utah-BYU game was not even on television. A game between two top 20 teams was unavailable. A game that would determine one of the schools in the BCS this season was a no-show.

Winners - Cleveland Browns
2) San Francisco 49ers @ Dallas Cowboys
This is what the Cowboys need. A winnable game at home. The 49ers are 3-7 (2nd though in the NFC West if you can believe that). The Cowboys need to keep winning to stay in the thick of the NFC East. Terrell Owens and Roy Williams should see the ball quite often (start em in Fantasy!) and the Cowboys should roll in this one.

Just this past Sunday (November 16th), something occurred in the NFL during a post-game news conference that has left me dumbfounded. The Eagles and Bengals played to a 13-13 tie. Usually that would be news in of itself, since ties are very rare in the NFL. In fact, the last tie came in 2002. The last time an Eagles game ended in a tie was, coincidentally, on November 16, 1997 against the Baltimore Ravens. But what’s got my panties all up in a bunch is what Donovan McNabb had to say after the game.

A statement was made late Sunday night. The Statement? We're back! The return of many injured players excluding the Jones boys Felix and Adam, sparked the running game and brought life to the defense for the first time in over a month. Both sides of the ball played well. Tony Romo returned, putting up numbers like Brad Johnson, yet it didn't look quite the same. After getting off to a rusty start, Romo was able to navigate the boys through bumpy terrain that is the Washington defense. He had two interceptions, one that was his fault and one that was TO's fault. TO proves that it didn't matter who the quarterback was, he was going to put up an average game. On the other side, Roy Williams put up similiar numbers as TO, but most of his receptions came off of drive saving first downs. In such a short time, Roy Williams has suddenly become more valuable than TO, playing with heart. Don't tell me that Cowboys' fans don't appreciate the first down signal from the receiver, once he gets it for his team. Kind of reminds me of another guy who used to do that? Anyone? Rhymes with Treytaker? Anyone, anyone remember...HOFer. First name the same as one of the Jackson five? Anyone?
